Name: Paolo Falcaro

Degree: Material Science

Brief Biography

Born in 1975 in Padova, Paolo Falcaro graduated in Material Science in 2002 at Padova University. His graduation thesis investigated the synthesis and application studies of mesostructured silica thin films made via Sol-Gel technique. During the same year he worked on "advanced ceramics for space applications" (coatings for heat protection) with an Italian Space Agency (A.S.I.) annual fellowship. The 01-01-2003 he began his Ph. D. on Materials Engineering (Bologna University): the P.h. D. activity has done at Università di Padova, Dip. di Ingegneria Meccanica - Settore Materiali and Austrian Small Angle X-Ray Scattering Beam Line - Sincrotrone di Elettra, Trieste. The main topic of his research was to define the best deposition conditions to improve the control of inorganic mesoporous films in terms of order, geometry of mesopores, thickness, optical quality and the possible applications (sensing and solar cell devices).
During the 2002 he spent 45 days as visiting Ph.D. student at Miyayama Lab - University of  Tokyo - Japan for the international joint Italy - Japan project on Nanotechnologies.
Form 2002 up to 2004 he worked as professor assistant of "Materials with chemistry elements" for the Mechanical Engineering degree (Padova University - Italy).
Nowadays he works as researcher at Civen (Coordinamento Interuniversitario VEneto per le Nanotecnologie). He is in charge to study and develop nanostructured thin films via Sol-Gel deposition on order to synthesize protective and decorative coatings.
