Name: Alessandro Patelli Degree: Physics
Brief Biography
Born in 1974 in Padova, Alessandro Patelli graduated in Physics in 1999 (110/110 cum laude) at the University of Padova. His graduation thesis was focused on the investigation of MoS2-based nanostructured films by the correlation of mechanical properties with composition and magnetron sputtering deposition parameters. The study of these coatings continued after the degree in the same "materials for detectors" laboratory of the National Laboratory of Legnaro of INFN, with a European Social Funding fellowship (1/4/1999 - 1/4/2000) on the development of thin films with low friction coefficient. In this period he experienced also in hard coatings for mechanical application such as TiN, BCN and SiC. From April 2000 to December 2002 he attended a PhD course in Material Science at the University of Catania, focussing on the development of multilayer optics for EUV radiation; the activity was always carried on at the LNL - INFN. In the same period he obtained a Research fellowship of the University of Padova (1/4/2000 - 1/11/2003) and then he attained a research contract with the University of Padova (1/11/2003 - 15/11/2004) on the same subject in the frame of a FIRB project. In May and June 2004 he performed EXAFS technique training at the GILDA beamline (ESRF - Grenoble (F)). At the moment he is a researcher at CIVEN (Coordinamento Interuniversitario VEneto per le Nanotecnologie), which he joined in November 2004. His work consists mainly in the development of nanostructured thin films obtained by PECVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition) and PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) in their morphological, structural, optical and mechanical characterization.
