Name: Roberta Sulcis Degree: Chemistry
Brief Biography
Born in 1977 in Volterra (PI), Roberta Sulcis graduated in Industrial Chemistry, with specialization in Research and Development of Materials in November 2002, at the University of Pisa. Her graduation thesis investigated the synthesis and the characterization of polymer micro and nanocomposites based on silicate layers. From January 2003 to December 2005 she attended a PhD course in Chemistry at Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, with the financial support of Pirelli LABS. In this period she carried out her research activity at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Pisa. During the 2005 she spent 3 months as visiting Ph.D. student at the Freiburger Materialforschungszentrum - Freiburg im Breisgau-Germany. The main topic of her research was the development of new thermoplastic-elastomeric composites obtained by in-situ catalytic homo and co-polymerization of olefins in the presence of partially vulcanized and filled rubber particles derived from waste tires.
Actually she is a researcher at Civen (Coordinamento Interuniversitario VEneto per le Nanotecnologie), which she joined in February 2006. Her work consists mainly in the development of polymer nanocomposites with increased mechanical properties, high barrier properties, for advanced functional applications or with high thermal stability and flame retardant properties. |
